What telescope do you recommend?

What is a large telescope to see the rings of Saturn, planets, nebulas, star clusters …. without horrible distortion. What are the best focal length, expansion and so forth? I'm not sure what it really means to each aspect, so I'm not sure "what" I'm buying and what telescope has an added feature. How important is GPS and what really "Need" that? I was looking at a few different areas, Celestron NexStar 130 SLT, Celestron NexStar 4 SE (this is a little more exp. What I wanted to pay) There were some others. I was hoping to get one for enthusiasts rather than beginners. Furthermore, what does the "red dot" mean? I like the "go" and astrophotograpghy. Thank you. I hope someone can help.

Any telescope with a minimum 4-inch aperture can display the planets and bright deep sky objects reasonably well in the dark. Realistically, a 6-inch telescope is much better. You do not really need the function of positioning Global satellite, which is nice for some applications, but not a necessity for visual observation. A red dot finder simply projects a red dot in a window why you look at the sky. When the red dot shows where the telescope is pointing. However, I would forget astro-photography, at least in its first telescope. It is much more expensive than what many people believe high quality and requires an assembly to support the weight of both telescope and camera while tracking the target accurately. It is difficult and frustrating to master, and that is why there are relatively few people who do. However, with a CCD camera can do some real science with astronomical photography, but it is worth first start with a basic telescope and go from there. I would suggest an 8 or 10-inch Dobsonian, which can show a lot of detail on Jupiter and Saturn, can easily be updated over time with things like digital platforms equatorial and setting circles, guiding its right of thousands of objects. Fits most cars, and even one of 10 inches, can be handled by one person easily. Can be used while sitting in a chair or stool even when pointed upward. Before spending money, find a local astronomy club and spend some time trying each telescope you can before you buy. You not buy a house or car without looking in person, and telescopes are no different.
