Bushnell Telescope?
My aunt got me a Bushnell reflector telescope. It is a model 78-4678. I can not see the moon or anything, but I can see a flashlight. Not There is a search engine, but I do not really think that helps at all. I live in the middle of nowhere for the city lights are not a problem. Mars is supposed to be visible well before I'd be able to see it. Anyone have any idea?
Two possibilities come to mind. 1) The lens cover in these areas often in two parts. Have you removed the two sides, giving a hole about 5 inches in diameter, the same as the inside diameter of the tube? Many people only remove the center cap, so the light that gets through is immediately blocked by the mirror diagonal. 2) Is the mirror diagonal (small mirror can be seen through the eyepiece holder near eyepiece) turn out of position? When you put your eye to the eyepiece holder without an eyepiece in place, you should see this small mirror reflecting the large mirror at the bottom the tube. If not, turn until you can. This raises the question of collimation: reflector telescopes, like this, they need their precisely aligned mirrors to give a clear image. Instructions for doing so should have come with the scope, if not, you can find them at the source below. Do not have a scope the browser will make it very difficult to use your scope, it will not be able to pinpoint anything. You must purchase at least a power detector unit as QuikFinder Telrad or Rigel. If this is too much for you, find your local astronomy club and contact them for help.
